2nd-4th Grade

In a typical music class, students experience the following routine:
  1. Pitch exploration, echoing, and/or singing game
  2. Conversational Solfege music literacy curriculum
  3. Movement exploration, folk dancing, and/or recorder techniques.

Our school district's music literacy curriculum is modeled after the Conversational Solfege curriculum.  This is a sound before sight approach to reading music that is structured after the way children learn language.  Students explore a musical concept, such as quarter notes and eighth note pairs, through a series of 12 steps:
