1st Year Band
The purpose of homework this week is to get students making sounds on their instrument and assembling/holding them properly. Because each instrument is held slightly differently, check under instrument name for homework.
Flute-
1. Practice making HIGH AND LOW sounds on head joint in the mirror. Hold the head joint with your left hand and cover the open end with your right palm. To make a higher sound, make the hole of your mouth smaller (smaller than a grain of rice!) and blow faster air.
2. Figure out where to put your fingers on your instrument for the first 5 notes on the "First 8 Notes" handout using the diagrams under the notes. You don't need to play them, just practice reading a fingering chart (the diagram). These notes would be Bb, C, D, Eb, and F.
3. Practice page 6 #1, 2, and 4. I will be looking for correct notes and that you play and rest for the right amount of beats.
**If you can't remember where to put your fingers, remember- skip one, use one, skip one, use two.
Clarinet-
1. Practice making sounds on mouthpiece in the mirror.
Use the "Embouchure" handout to help you shape your mouth the right way. NO PUFFY CHEEKS!

3. Practice #1, 2, and 4 on page 6. I will be looking for correct notes and that you play and rest for the right amount of beats.
