KINDERGARTEN
HOW (Habits of Work)-

  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can try all activities. 
    • I can be safe, respectful, and responsible.

TUNEFUL- 
  • Power Standard: Student sings songs alone or together in class that may include: echo songs, simple songs, call and response.  (MLR A1.pk-2)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to sing a song.
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can sing at the correct time.
    • I can sing alone.
    • I can sing together.
BEATFUL- 
  • Power Standard: Student attempts to find the beat of music and show it on his/her body. (MLR A3.pk2)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to move to the beat of music.
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can show my own beat on my body.

ARTFUL- 
  • Power Standard: Student attempts to move appropriately to a piece of music. (MLR A3.pk-2)

FIRST GRADE

HOW-

  • Learning Target: I am learning to use my singing voice. 
  • Success Criteria: 
I can show my singing voice.  
  • I can show my speaking voice.
  • I can show my whisper voice.
  • I can show my shouting voice.

BEATFUL- 
  • Power Standards: Student attempts to find the beat of music and show it on his/her body. (MLR A3.pk2)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to move to the beat of music with others. 
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can show a beat on my body.
    • I can move at the same time with the class.

ARTFUL- 
  • Power Standards: Student identifies mood in a selected piece of music. (MLR D1.pk-2.c)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to describe the way a song makes me feel. 
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can describe what emotion I feel when listening to a song.


SECOND GRADE

HOW-

    • I can repeat a short chant with my speaking voice.
    • I can repeat a short melody with my singing voice.
    • I can sing at the correct time.
    • I can repeat a short chant or melody with the correct words or syllables.

BEATFUL- 
  • Power Standard: Student demonstrates the beat of a piece of music through use of voice, body, or instrument. (MLR A3.pk-2)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to keep a steady beat. 
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can find the beat in music I hear.
    • I can show the beat with my voice, body, or instrument.
    • I can give the teacher a steady beat to sing to.

ARTFUL- 
  • Power Standard: Student utilizes elements of dance such as level, flow, and pathway to match the music he/she hears. (MLR A3.pk-2)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to move expressively to music. 
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can make my movements match the feeling of music.
    • I can move safely alone and with others.

MUSICALLY LITERATE- 
  • Power Standard: Student speaks, reads, and writes quarter note and eighth note pair rhythms in 2/4 time. (MLR B2.pk-2)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to speak, read, and write using du and du de. 
  • Success Criteria:
    • I can improvise du and du de rhythms with accurate words and length.
    • I can read du and du de rhythms with accurate words and length.
    • I can decode du and du de rhythms I hear.
    • I can compose my own du and du de rhythms.



THIRD GRADE
HOW-

BEATFUL- 
  • Power Standard: Student demonstrates macro and micro beat of a piece of music through use of body or instrument. (MLR A3.PreK-2)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to show the big and little beats of a song. (experiencing macro and micro beat)
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can show the big (strong) and little (weak) beats on my body or instrument.
    • I can keep a steady beat.​

ARTFUL- 
  • Power Standard: Student utilizes elements of dance such as level, flow, and pathway to match the music he/she hears AND can explain his/her choices. (MLR A3.3-5)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to apply elements of dance to match the music I hear. 
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can use ideas of shape, body parts, pathway, and levels.
    • I can make my movements match the feeling of music.
    • I can explain why I chose my movements.
 
MUSICALLY LITERATE- 
  • Power Standard: Student speaks, reads, and writes dotted quarter note and triplet eighth note rhythms in 6/8 time. (MLR B2.3-5)
  • Learning Target: I can speak, read, and write using du, du da di, and rest.  
  • Success Criteria:
    • I can improvise du, du da di, and rest rhythms with accurate words and length.
    • I can read du, du da di, and rest  rhythms with accurate words and length.
    • I can decode du, du da di, and rest rhythms I hear.
    • I can compose my own du, du da di, and rest  rhythms.


FOURTH GRADE
HOW-

  • Power Standard: Student vocally improvises through use of vocal glissandi, a neutral (MLR B1.3-5) syllable, given text, or created text.
  • Learning Target: I am learning to create my own song. 
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can make up my own sounds using pitch exploration ideas.
    • I can make up my own song using a neutral syllable.
    • I can make up my own song with words that were given to me.
    • I can make up my own song that has my own words. 
 
BEATFUL- 
  • Power Standard: Student identifies if a piece of music is in duple or triple meter. (MLR A3.PreK-2)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to show how beats are grouped. 
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can keep a steady beat.
    • I can show the big (strong) and little (weak) beats on my body or instrument.
    • I can identify if the little beats are in groups of two or three.

ARTFUL- 
  • Power Standard: Student identifies mood in a selected piece of music and elements of music that the composer used to accomplish this such as tempo or dynamics (MLR D1.pk-2.a)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to describe the mood of a piece and why it sounds that way. 
  • Success Criteria:  
    • I can identify the mood felt when listening to a piece of music.
    • I can identify elements of music (such as tempo and dynamics).
 
MUSICAL LITERATE- 
  • Power Standard: Student sings, reads, and writes using do, re, and mi. (MLR B2.3-5)
  • Learning Target: I am learning to sing, read, and write using do, re, and mi.
  • Success Criteria: 
    • I can improvise do, re, and mi melodies with accurate words and pitch.
    • I can read do, re, and mi melodies with accurate words and pitch.
    • I can decode do, re, and mi melodies I hear.
    • I can compose my own do, re, and mi melodies.
